Description

Simpson Strong-Tie has redesigned its popular subfloor screw to reduce driving force and increase installation speed. The new Strong-Drive WSV Subfloor screw has been developed for fastening subfloor coverings using the auto-feed Quik Drive screw system. The Strong-Drive WSV Subfloor screw is the only fastener to have been dual-tested to ICC-ES AC233 and AC120 for fastening wood-framed subfloors. These tests indicate that WSV Subfloor screws have higher lateral, shear, and shrinkage values than common 10d nails, and that diaphragms constructed with WSV Subfloor screws meet or exceed the strength and stiffness of wood-framed diaphragms constructed with 10d nails. Also available is the Strong-Drive WSVF Subfloor screw for fire-resistant wood-based materials. The Strong-Drive WSVF Subfloor screw is available with a gray Quik Guard coating, whose corrosion resistance is recognized in IAPMO UES ER-192 for exposures 1 and 3, as described in ICC-ES AC257. Like the WSV Subfloor screw, the WSVF Subfloor screws are designed for dry applications. The WSVF screw coating system provides corrosion resistance for use with wood and wood-based materials in dry service where the wood and wood-based materials have treatment retentions typical of AWPA Use Categories 1 through 4A and wood and wood-based materials treated with a fire retardant that is recognized in an evaluation report where the corrosion effects of the fire retardant chemical are referenced to code-prescribed protection systems for carbon steel fasteners.

  • The redesigned point and thread design provide easier starts and reduce fastening torque by 25% (test data shows the Strong-Drive WSV Subfloor screw requires 25% less fastening torque in single-material glulam) - allows for up to 20% faster fastening (test data indicates the redesigned WSV thread design allows for installation of 20% faster screws)
  • Lower installation torque also means less tool wear
  • The recessed ribbed 6-lobe head allows for clean countersinking and a more secure bit hold, reducing stripping
  • The holding power of WSV screws reduces gaps between the joist and subfloor that cause squeaky floors.
