This tool provides a simple way to stretch the carpet over the stair tread and shape it around the nosing. Hook the teeth of the gripper into the carpet just before the nosing, then pull the handle down. A pulling action is generated on the teeth, stretching the carpet over the stair tread. At the same time, the lower edge of the tool pushes the carpet back under the nosing. The recesses in the lower edge allow the stapler's nose to be inserted for easy stapling.
