Frequently asked questions

Do I need an underlay under this laminate?

Series 81 comes with a 2 mm EVA underlay attached: do not add another, as the joints would flex and eventually break. The other series have no attached underlay and are installed over a floating-floor underlay, such as Toucan’s EVA acoustic underlay with vapour barrier.

Is this laminate water-resistant?

Yes, within the limits of Toucan’s warranty. Series 66, 80 and 81 withstand standing water on the surface for up to 72 hours. Series 11, 25, 31, 60, 62 and 63 withstand it for up to 36 hours. Wipe up spills as they happen; appliance and plumbing leaks are not covered.

Do the planks need to acclimatize?

Yes. Leave the cartons in the installation room for 48 hours, at 18 to 25°C (64 to 77°F). Keep the cartons sealed during acclimatization and until you are ready to install.

How should I prepare the subfloor?

It must be clean, flat and sound. The tolerance depends on the locking system: 3 mm over 3 m for the I4F click series (11, 31, 60, 62, 63 and 66), 5 mm over 2 m for the Uniclic series (25, 80 and 81). Grind down peaks and fill valleys with patching compound.

How much should I order?

Measure the area, add 5 to 10% for cuts and waste, then round up to the nearest full carton. The coverage per carton is listed in the specifications.

Do I need an expansion gap?

Yes. Leave a gap equal to the floor’s thickness along the walls and around obstructions. Laminate also needs a gap at thresholds when the floor continues into a hallway or another room: cover it with a T-moulding.

How do I care for this floor?

Vacuum regularly: dust and grit act like sandpaper. For stubborn dirt, use a liquid cleaner made for laminate floors. Avoid rubber- or latex-backed mats, and protect furniture legs.

What is the warranty?

30 years residential and 15 years light commercial, plus a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. It covers wear-through of the decorative layer, fading, staining from household products and joint gapping beyond 0.2 mm. It requires installation and maintenance that follow Toucan’s instructions, and it is not transferable.
