Frequently asked questions

Do I need to add an underlay?

No. An acoustic underlay is already attached to the planks (IXPE, EVA or cork depending on the series). Toucan states not to add another underlay layer: the joints would flex and eventually break. Installing over carpet or an additional underpad also voids the warranty.

Is this floor really waterproof?

Yes, its SPC core is 100% waterproof. Toucan’s warranty covers the planks’ structural integrity with standing water on the surface for up to 72 hours. Still, wipe up spills as they happen. Appliance or plumbing leaks and moisture coming up from the subfloor are not covered.

Do the planks need to acclimatize?

Yes. Leave the cartons in the installation room for 48 hours, at 18 to 25°C (64 to 77°F). Keep the cartons sealed during acclimatization and until you are ready to install.

How should I prepare the subfloor?

It must be clean, flat and sound. Height differences must not exceed 3 mm over 3 m (1/8 in. over 10 ft). Grind down peaks and fill valleys with patching compound before installing.

How much should I order?

Measure the area, add 5 to 10% for cuts and waste, then round up to the nearest full carton. The coverage per carton is listed in the specifications.

Do I need an expansion gap?

Yes. Leave a gap equal to the floor’s thickness along the walls and around obstructions such as posts and pipes. It is then covered by baseboard, quarter round or a suitable moulding.

How do I care for this floor?

Vacuum regularly: dust and grit act like sandpaper and can mark the grooves. For stubborn dirt, use a liquid cleaner made for vinyl floors. Avoid rubber- or latex-backed mats, which can discolour the floor, and protect furniture legs.

What is the warranty?

30 years residential and 10 years light commercial, plus a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. It covers wear-through of the decorative layer, fading, staining from household products and joint gapping beyond 0.2 mm. It requires installation and maintenance that follow Toucan’s instructions, and it is not transferable.
