Description

Description

Schluter-DITRA-HEAT-DUO integrates the features of the DITRA membrane—uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management, and support—into a customizable and comfortable floor heating system, enabling long-lasting installations. DITRA-HEAT-DUO features an integrated felt that reduces heat loss through the substrate during heating applications, accelerates the response time of the floor heating system, and reduces impact sound in floor-ceiling assemblies.

Sound Reduction

Reducing impact sound in floor-ceiling assemblies in multi-story buildings can be challenging, particularly when ceramic and natural stone tiles are used. Additionally, sound-reduction materials tend to compact, and some do not provide adequate support for the tiles. The DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane reduces sound propagation while still supporting the tile covering, allowing for durable installations.

Underfloor Heating

DITRA-HEAT-DUO combines the advantages of a loose cable with the ease of membrane installation. The heating cables can be arranged as desired, without creating unevenness in the floor. Furthermore, there is no need to cover the cables with a self-leveling compound, which greatly speeds up and facilitates installation.

Uncoupling

For thousands of years, tiling has been successfully carried out by incorporating an uncoupling or shear stress-absorbing layer. DITRA-HEAT-DUO provides decoupling thanks to its geometric configuration, allowing horizontal movements, which effectively neutralize differential movement constraints between the substrate and the ceramic tile, the main cause of tile cracking and delamination.

Waterproofing

DITRA-HEAT-DUO provides a reliable waterproofing system. Its polypropylene composition protects the substrate from moisture, which is especially important today since most substrates used in buildings are sensitive to moisture.

Vapor Management

The air spaces beneath the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane allow excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate – otherwise, the tile coverings could be damaged. Therefore, the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane ensures effective moisture management beneath the ceramic tile covering.

Load Support/Distribution

When placed on a solid foundation, columns and piers can support enormous loads. The same physics principles apply to installations using DITRA-HEAT-DUO. Columnar mortar structures are formed on and between the studs on the membrane's surface. These structures transfer the load from the tile to the substrate. Because DITRA-HEAT-DUO is virtually incompressible within the tile assembly, it offers the benefits of uncoupling without compromising load distribution.

Diverse Flooring with DITRA-HEAT

DITRA-HEAT is suitable for applications incorporating engineered wood, vinyl, wood-plastic composite (WPC), luxury vinyl tile (LVT) or plank (LVP), stone composite (SPC) tile or plank, and laminate flooring. See the technical bulletin on the use of various flooring materials with DITRA-HEAT for more information, including requirements and limitations.

  • Integrated sound attenuation and thermal barrier
  • Installs for floor heating under tile, natural stone, and other vinyl flooring materials (e.g., LVT)
  • Attenuates impact sound in floor-ceiling assemblies, ideal for multi-level construction
  • Reduces heat loss through the substrate, for up to 70% faster heating on concrete during heating demands
  • Nominal thickness of 5/16" (8 mm) – limits tile thickness and transition heights to lower adjacent flooring materials
  • No cable covering is required Self-leveling
  • The DITRA-HEAT-DUO clamps are configured so that the DITRA-HEAT-E-HK electric floor heating cables easily secure in place
  • Quick and easy to install; Few tools required
  • Patent pending
  • Installs for floor heating under tile, natural stone, and other vinyl flooring (e.g., LVT)
