Schluter-DITRA-HEAT integrates the features of the DITRA membrane—uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management, and support—into a customizable and comfortable electric floor heating system, enabling long-lasting installations.
Floor Heating
DITRA-HEAT combines the advantages of a loose cable with the ease of membrane installation. The heating cables can be arranged as desired without creating unevenness in the floor. Furthermore, there is no need to cover the cables with a self-leveling compound, making installation much faster and easier.
Uncoupling
For thousands of years, tile has been successfully installed by incorporating an uncoupling or shear-stress-absorbing layer. DITRA-HEAT ensures decoupling thanks to its geometric configuration, allowing horizontal movements, which effectively neutralizes differential movement constraints between the substrate and the tile, the main cause of tile cracking and delamination.
Waterproofing
DITRA-HEAT is a reliable waterproofing system. Its polypropylene composition protects the substrate from moisture, which is particularly important today since most substrates used in buildings are sensitive to moisture.
Vapor Management
The voids beneath the DITRA-HEAT membrane allow excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate—otherwise, the tile coverings could be damaged. As a result, the DITRA-HEAT membrane effectively manages moisture beneath the tile covering.
Load Support/Distribution
When placed on a solid foundation, columns and piers can support enormous loads. The same principles of physics apply to installations made with the DITRA-HEAT membrane. Columnar mortar structures are formed on and between the studs on the membrane surface. Thus, the load is transferred from the tile to the substrate through these structures. Because DITRA-HEAT is virtually incompressible within the tile assembly, it offers the benefits of uncoupling without compromising load distribution.
Diverse Flooring with DITRA-HEAT
DITRA-HEAT is suitable for applications incorporating engineered wood, vinyl, wood-plastic composite (WPC), luxury vinyl tile (LVT) or plank (LVP), stone composite (SPC) tile or plank, and laminate flooring. See the technical bulletin on the use of various coverings with DITRA-HEAT for more information, including requirements and limitations.
- DITRA-HEAT's cleats are configured so that the DITRA-HEAT-E-HK electric floor heating cable easily snaps into place.
- Nominal thickness of 1/4" (5.5 mm) – limits tile thickness and transition height to lower coverings.
- Additionally, there is no need to cover the cables with a self-leveling compound on the membrane.
- Quick and easy to install; few tools required.
- Applies for floor heating under tile, natural stone, and other vinyl coverings (e.g., LVT).
- U.S. Pat. No. 8,950,141; 9,428,920; 9,797,146 and U.S. DES. PAT. No. D706459 Canada Patent No. 2,822,392 Canada Ⓓ Schluter Systems L.P. and other patents pending
