Schluter notched trowels are matched to the membranes and shower components in the range: the notch meters the volume of thin-set mortar needed to achieve full contact with the anchoring fleece or the back of the component. All mortar types can be used with Schluter trowels, including large and heavy tile mortars.

Installation

Mix a thin-set suitable for the substrate to a fairly fluid consistency that still holds a notch, and comb it with the trowel. Lay the membrane fleece side down and solidly embed it into the mortar with a float, screed trowel or DITRA-ROLLER, working within the mortar's open time; if the mortar skins over before installation, remove and reapply it. Lift a corner of the membrane to check coverage: a correct installation gives full contact between the fleece and the mortar.

Schluter publishes a coverage rate of roughly one 50 lb bag of mortar per 150 ft² (10.7 m²) for bonding DITRA with this trowel.
