The wedi® Building Panel is a tile backer board that is waterproof throughout its thickness. Its blue closed-cell extruded polystyrene (XPS) core makes it impermeable to the core — it needs no applied waterproofing membrane, unlike cement board.
Both faces carry a fibreglass mesh fully embedded in a cement-resin coating that transfers through to the core. The mesh provides mechanical strength and creates a waffle pattern that thin-set mortar locks into. Once the panels are fastened and the seams sealed with wedi® Joint Sealant, tiling can begin as soon as the sealant is dry to the touch.

STANDARDS
Tested to ANSI A118.10 (load-bearing, bonded waterproof membranes), ANSI/TCNA A118.18 (foam core backer boards) and ASTM C578. Recognised in TCNA installation guidelines for wall and floor tile assemblies.
INSTALLATION
Installs vertically or horizontally over wood or steel studs, or over a stable existing substrate, using wedi® screws and washers. Seal every seam and fastener point with wedi® Joint Sealant — that step is what makes the assembly waterproof. Suitable for walls, floors, ceilings and countertops in interior wet areas.
The flat, even surface suits large-format porcelain, thin-body tile, stone and glass mosaic particularly well. Permissible wall tile load: up to 23 lb/sq. ft.
