Description

Schluter-SCHIENE is designed to provide edges for ceramic tile coverings. Typical applications include edge protection where tiles are edged with carpet, at expansion joints, or as a decorative edge for stairs. SCHIENE is available in stainless steel, solid brass, aluminum, and anodized aluminum. SCHIENE is also available in color-coated textured aluminum finishes, which are suitable for floor installations in residential applications only. The profile features a trapezoidal perforated anchoring leg, which is set in the mortar layer beneath the tile, and an 87° sloped vertical wall section that transfers point loads to the substrate and surface covering while protecting the tile edges from damage. SCHIENE, made of solid brass, aluminum, textured colored aluminum, and anodized aluminum, features a 5° angled top flange and a fillet at the anchor leg/vertical section interface to improve edge protection by reducing stress on the tile. In sizes larger than 6 mm (1/4"), it has an integrated joint spacer that establishes a defined joint cavity between the tile and the profile. The SCHIENE anchor leg, in all materials, is available with a special "R" radius perforation so that the profile can be used to form curves.

  • Prevents tile spalling
  • Ideal for creating floor transitions
  • Ideal for floor coverings where the tile is bordered by carpet or wood
  • Presents a visible surface approximately 1/8" (3 mm) wide, for realization of discrete transitions
